Our Broadway Park/Britannia Reeves project showcases community energy at its best, bringing together two local, family-owned businesses for maximum impact. Energise South Downs is installing solar PV on Britannia Reeves’ expansive rooftop. While Britannia Reeves is a low energy user, they are partnering with ESD by providing valuable roof space for solar generation. The renewable energy produced will be shared with their neighbour, Broadway Park — a community of 140 park homes and a high energy user — covering up to 30% of residents’ electricity needs. This helps prepare for a future with increasing reliance on electricity through air source heat pumps and EVs. This initiative supports residents in decarbonising their energy use and lowering their bills, demonstrating how local collaboration can deliver clean
energy where it is needed most. Funds were raised through our 2025 share offer and installation will start in September 2025.
Both are longstanding, family-run Petersfield businesses with deep local roots. Broadway Park began in 1936 when Alan Broadway bought Fairfield Farm. During WWII, he brought decommissioned trams from London to house Portsmouth evacuees – many of whom stayed and formed a lasting community. This year marks 80 years of Broadway family ownership.
Britannia Reeves, founded by John A. Reeves in 1897, has remained in the family for four generations, growing from a small furniture shop into a respected removals and haulage firm.
