Winchester Action on the Climate Crisis is a well-established group with a wide-ranging interests across the sphere of sustainability. In terms of clean energy, WinACC’s key observations are:
- The UK government aims to fully decarbonise the electricity grid by 2035, requiring very significant expansion of solar and wind power. For these technologies, there is a potential role for every district, parish, business and home.
- Large scale solar farms are viable without subsidy and can be constructed quickly. We want local communities to get involved in finding suitable sites and benefiting from development.
- Everyone can encourage their neighbours and local businesses to consider investment in rooftop solar.
- We need an ambitious District-wide target and plan for renewable energy, with resources for coordination and delivery.
